The students and I have been hard at work in both math and French. This is our last month together in Intensive French and we are loading up on new vocabulary, sentence structures, questions and responses, reading and writing. Since break we have worked on speaking in the past tense to describe what we did on our vacation, talk about any of the meals we have eaten throughout the day, what we have done after school etc. We are focusing on a food unit right now learning how to talk about healthy and unhealthy choices, and use words such as often, sometimes and rarely to talk about our habits. The students also continued to work on speaking in the future tense and always adding details to their sentences. Lastly, we have read a book called Texts sur les pentes about two boys who meet at a ski hill and can't seem to find each other.
In math, we are digging deeper and deeper into the world of fractions, decimals and working on our problem solving skills. Students have seen an overview of comparing fractions, what an equivalent fraction is, fractions as decimals and decimals as fractions, money and equivalent fractions and more. We have completed hands-on activities, an art project, worked with counters, drawings, number lines and more. There will be a midpoint fraction quiz check-in on Monday, January 21st. To help your child at home you could have them cook or bake with you, total the cost of things you are going to buy, add and subtract decimals using real money, have them divide any group/set or object and speak about the fraction and more.
Next week there is a happy healthy hunger lunch and a full week of school. There is a note below about yearbooks that are for sale! They are $35 and will include lots of memories from this school year.
